India’s new proposal to Pakistan for Asia Cup

India is softening the tone of the Asia Cup. They have recently withdrawn from the way they have objected to Pakistan, the host country of the Asia Cup cricket tournament. India has now proposed a ‘hybrid’ model to Pakistan to host the Asia Cup.

According to the Hindustan Times, if the recent talks between the Indian and Pakistan Cricket Boards on the Asia Cup are successful, then the Asia Cup will be held in a strange way in September. This is called the ‘hybrid’ model.

India has told Pakistan that the hosting rights of the Asia Cup will remain with Pakistan. Only India’s matches will have to be held at a neutral venue in the vicinity. Although the match against Pakistan is played, India wants it to be a neutral venue. Even if India reaches the final, it will be at that neutral venue. Recently, during the ICC meeting in Dubai, there was a discussion between the Cricket Boards of India and Pakistan about hosting the Asia Cup, which India proposed to Pakistan.

Several ‘neutral venues’ were also discussed. Quoting a BCCI official privy to the discussions, the Hindustan Times reported that Pakistan has conveyed to India that it is looking into the matter. The UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka, and even Bangladesh are coming up as neutral venues. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had demanded that the Asia Cup venue be completely removed from Pakistan. They had said that the BCCI will not get permission from the Indian government to tour Pakistan.
