Bangladesh lost the first match of Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan easily. The batting order of Bangladesh failed to put a big total on the board and scored just 127 runs in their 20 overs inning. The top batting order of Bangladesh totally failed to perform well but their middle batting order gave a fight. Mosaddek Hossain was the most successful and highest run-scorer from their side who remained not out after scoring 48 runs. Afif Hossain scored 12 runs while the skipper, Shakib Al Hasan scored just 11 runs. The performance of the bowling unit of Bangladesh was good but they could not defend a low target on the board and leaked the target of 128 runs in 18.3 overs. They used six bowlers in the previous match where Mohammad Saifuddin, Mosaddek Hossain, and Shakib Al Hasan picked one wicket each while Mustafizur Rahman, Mahedi Hasan, and Taskin Ahmed were the bowlers who remained wicketless in the first match.

Sri Lanka had played 12 matches against Bangladesh where they won four while Bangladesh won eight matches.
