Bangladesh Women Defeat Pakistan, Advance to ACC Emerging Cup Final Against India

Bangladesh’s women’s cricket emerging side has secured a spot in the finals of the ongoing ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Cup 2023. In a rain-affected second semi-final match held at Mong Kok Cricket Stadium in Hong Kong on Tuesday, Bangladesh emerged victorious by six runs against Pakistan.

Despite the rain interruptions, the match was able to reach a result on the reserve day. The game was reduced to a nine-over-a-side contest, with Bangladesh batting first after winning the toss and posting a total of 59 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The team faced a batting collapse, finding themselves at 16 runs for six wickets in just 3.4 overs.

Rabeya Khatun, batting at number seven, contributed 10 runs, while Nahida Akter, batting at number four, added 21 runs off 16 deliveries, including three boundaries and one six.

In pursuit of the target, Pakistan required 13 runs off the final over, but left-arm spinner Sanjida Akhter defended admirably, conceding only six runs. As a result, Pakistan was restricted to 53 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Leg-spinner Rabeya Khan claimed two wickets, while Nahida Akter and Marufa Akter picked up one wicket each. Opener Eyman Fatima was the top scorer for Pakistan with 18 runs off 15 deliveries.

In the final match of the tournament, Bangladesh will face India on Wednesday at the same venue. The first semi-final between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned without a ball being bowled, and India advanced to the final based on their superior Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to the opposition.
